Inhale the age-old benefits of our salt room or relax in our dry float rooms where you can float on warm water without getting wet. Get all dirty in the Mud Pit or wash it all way in the hammam. Shepherd's Hut Log Sauna

In the 19th Century, the shepherd's hut was a haven of warmth and comfort in the fields so that the shepherd could look after his flock day and night for extended periods of time.  At The Garage, our Shepherd's Hut Log Sauna is a haven of warmth and comfort to relax and cleanse your body... Not so long ago, all saunas were enjoyed outdoors - close to the house, and perhaps close to a lake. The special aroma from the log-fired sauna makes for a unique bathing experience, and it's the purist's way to sauna – and that’s the way we like it. So brave the elements and be first to experience our Shepherd Hut Log Sauna.

Steam Room

Our steam room operates at a high temperature allowing the body to undergo detoxifying perspiration.  This has a therapeutic effect on the hair and skin as well as relaxing the muscles. The room is maintained at a very high air humidity through the enriched permanent steam. This strengthens the respiratory system and stimulates the release of toxins - well worth a visit. After about 10-20 minutes, bring your temperature back down in the ‘Car Wash’ or step outside into our secret garden and relax by the open log fire, breathing in the fresh countryside air

Ambient Salt Relaxation Room

The Ambient Salt Room is a controlled, relaxing Halotherapy environment, with from salt blocks, forged by nature hundreds of years ago. The salt is cleansing and stimulating and provides drug-free and clinically proven relief for many respiratory and skin conditions such as asthma, psoriasis and eczema.  Natural salt therapy dates back over 200 years and is used around the world in hospitals and health retreats to strengthen the immune system. So, sit back, breathe in the benefits and enjoy the warm soft glow that emanates from the salt blocks.

Relaxation Lounge

A tranquil comfort zone for refueling and rest... Our Relaxation Lounge is a cosy snug with all the comforts of home and that wonderful log fire. There are big, soft cushions and deep armchairs to lounge around in or even drift off for a snooze. Light refreshments are available: hot and cold drinks, plus our famous homemade cakes! Mud Pit

A deep cleansing  mud chamber, you'll be covered from top to toe in mud – except here the mud is our collection of purifying rasul muds from the Austrian Alps that cleanse and tone your skin as you relax in a steam-filled chamber before finishing with a warm and refreshing blast with our tropical shower. Our colourful, cleansing mud treatments contain all-natural active ingredients that release toxins from your pores leaving you beautifully cleansed and refreshed.

Hammam

Bathing usually is a simple operation, but at the Garage, it's not your typical rub-a-dub-dub. First, there's no tub, just a tiled room with a heated tiled bed. The tried and tested multi-step cleansing technique dated back to Roman times requires a chemist's brew of hot and cold water, olive oil soap, a mud-like paste and a scrub-me-down salt scrub. Your therapist knows exactly when to douse and when to drench, when to scrub and when to soak, so you’ll walk out of the Hammam relaxed and positivity glowing.

Secret Garden

When you find the Secret Garden you can swan around in our outdoor hot tub…relaxing in hot water with air bubbles massaging your body whilst breathing in the fresh countryside air. Or climb into the warm detoxifying cocoon of our Shepherd's Hut sauna. When all this activity is over, lounge in our garden tent after your sauna in a nest of cushions and blankets or wrap yourself in your fluffy dressing gowns and sit in our hammock chairs by the open fire with the best Hot Chocolate money can buy.

Dry Float

Looking for some serious TLC? One of the real beauties of dry floatation is that it can be easily combined with other body treatments such as wraps and even massages. The warmth of the water inside the mattress is great for encouraging your skin to absorb oils and lotions, leaving it lovely and soft. Instead of requiring you to climb into a tank, a dry floatation treatment takes place on a special bed – complete with a mattress filled with warm water. This allows you to be dry,  warm and comfortable, whilst simultaneously experiencing a sensation of weightlessness akin to that experienced when floating on water. Pure heaven!

A warm welcome is always on hand at The Garage. Our team will be free to guide you and offer individual treatment advice and help with creating your perfect spa experience.  Here at The Garage, we’ve had our thinking caps on to try and source as many natural ingredients as we possibly can to use in our treatments and retail. So, we’ve teamed up with our local Teesdale bee keepers, and we’ve created our own spa skincare range. In many cultures honey is recognised for its medicinal benefits. Did you know that honey is a natural anti-oxidant with anti-bacterial and carcinogen busting properties? It is for these reasons that we’ve been busy bees ourselves with our own natural range. So why not lie back, relax and let the honey do the work as we drizzle some sweet goodness over your skin here at the spa or as a gift for you to take home.

Indoor Hot Tubs

For hundreds of years, societies around the world have found rejuvenation in the calming and healing pleasures of warm water. From as far back as the ancient Greeks, tales are spoken of the medicinal healing powers of bathing in natural hot springs. The modern hot tub trend started in the 1960s in California, with people modifying large oak wine barrels into private hot soaking tubs. At The Garage we’ve moved things on a bit and given you a choice of 3 different experiences for your bathing journey. The first pit stop is a hydrotherapy tub for a soak and relaxing massage. Then, jump in to the next tub to immerse yourself in a hot relaxing bath. If you’re brave enough, jump into the plunge tub which is just perfect for cooling down after the Shepherd’s Hut Log Sauna or our Steam Room.
